What's New

flower combination planting ideas

Planting time has arrived! Begin with cold hardy plants such as peas, spinach, the cabbage family, lettuce, onions, and strawberries for your vegetable garden, and pansies, alyssum, and petunias for flowering annuals.

By mid May (keep an eye on the long range forecast) many other plants can go out. Be ready to protect them should we get an overnight cold snap.

The most tender plants include cucumbers, melons, and peppers; and sweet potato vines, coleus, and begonias. These resent even a cold wind. Some years it is best to wait until early June to plant, especially if your location is very exposed.

We now have locally grown tomatoes, salad mix, and rhubarb in our little farm store, with asparagus coming soon!

Our Farm

The Steckles' started farming as newlyweds in 1992, continuing their families’ tradition of agriculture. Gradually, their kitchen and flower gardens expanded, the hobby greenhouse was replaced by multiple larger ones, and the vegetable garden moved out of the back yard and into the farm fields.
